So, I leave in 8 hours. It is suddenly here and I am not sure what to think. The only thing I know for sure is that I am nervous. Beyond that, I sure hope I haven't forgotten anything. I am doing the continuous mental check list and am not finding any holes, but of course I wont notice that I am missing something until I need it and I am in north western Tanzania and can't get it at the store.
Apparently, I quasi-lied to people. I had coffee with the Director of the Board of Trustees of the orphanage and she said within the past month the Children's Village has gotten satellite internet because it was just too inconvenient to have people gone for a whole day just to check email. So, there is internet access, I just don't know how much time I will have to take advantage of it. So, please fell free to email, but who knows when I will get back to you!!
Alright, I am off!!!! Have a great summer state side, I am off to experience an African winter!

Time Out from Packing!!
I am pausing from the hecticness of packing to report that we have raised $3000. I made the donation yesterday to their office in Portland and it totaled $3000!!!! They were so excited and proud and blown away with my success. Back to packing!!

From under the stack of law school books!
Just a quick note to let you all know that the current total is $2630!!!
My new goal is $3000, at the start of all this I was sceptical of even reaching $1000!
Getting ready to pack and leave in 18 days is about the only thing keeping me going through law school exams!!

Oh my goodness!
I honestly cannot believe this! You all are amazing, really, I cannot express how thankful I am.
Today the fundraising total is: $2060
That is a HUGE amount of money in Tanzania and will do so much good. I am not mailing the checks until May 1st, so this number could grow even more!
Reaching this goal is one of my greatest accomplishments and I could not have done it alone.

I HAVE REACHED MY GOAL!!!
So, today I received yet another check, and as each check makes me extremely happy, this one holds particular significance, it put me over the top in reaching my goal of raising $1000!!!!! I actually cried at my mailbox, I was in shock and just so happy to know so many generous people!
The current total: $1060
In other news, I am officially safe and vaccinated! I visited the Travel Doctor on Friday and got treated like a pin cushion, polio and hep A in one arm and meningitis and tetanus in the other arm. Then I filled all my prescriptions to take with me, I feel like a walking pharmacy!
I leave in 36 days, I can't believe it, I am so excited. But, there is a lot to be done in order to finish school between now and then.

The money keeps coming!!
I do not think I will ever get over how fantastic it feels to open my mail box each day!! The donations are still rolling in!
Funds Raised: $725
Goal: $1000 ($2000 with the generous matching offer) - $2000 can support 2 children for an entire year! Imagine!
The orphanage gives each child a hand-made quilt that has been donated by people from around the world when they arrive at the orphanage, probably under the theory that every child needs something that is totally theirs. I mentioned this to my Grammy, I thought she may have fun making a quilt for one of the children. She mentioned the idea at her quilting group and they are now making several (I don't know the amount) quilts that I will bring with me when I go over. How cool?!
THANK YOU!!

I LOVE fundraising!
It may be the most enjoyable feeling to go to my mail box each day and there is another envelope containing a donation! I am just in shock at everyone's generosity and willingness to give something of themselves in order for children with very little to have a better life! I should give up on law school and go into development, this is amazing!
AMOUNT RAISED THUS FAR: $400
FUNDRAISING GOAL: $1000
If anyone is interested in making a non-monetary donation to the orphanage, I will be packing a large duffel bag to bring with me. The orphanage is in constant need of daily items such as duct tape, ziploc bags and office/school supplies as well as children's every day clothing, shoes, bedding and rain gear. Please see the following link for the entire Wish List, http://www.tanzanianchildrensfund.org/wish-list.html. Any items you have will be gratefully accepted and donated to the orphanage. I am currently looking for someone with connections to LL Bean and the employee store in order to purchase discounted children's rain clothes and fleeces. If you know of any such person, please let me know!
BEST! Jess
